Magical AI for Sales E-book

Copy & Brand Voice development all wrapped up into a value-packed lead-gen e-book!

Magical: AI Autofill Automation Tool

Magical automates autofilling, making everyday tasks faster for salespeople, recruiters, and HR folks. They just started marketing to salespeople and wanted to get the word out about their awesome tool.

The perfect brief + brand voice

Magical gave me an awesome brief with use-cases from thought leaders in the sales field. They also have a well-structured brand voice guide. Combined, these made it easy to write an amazing lead-magnet that was both valuable and high-conversion.

400k+ views per month

The AI for Sales Playbook gets over 400k views per month now! They’re gathering hundreds of thousands of email addresses every month – mostly from U.S. residents, their target market.

The Angle

Magical wanted to provide salespeople an opportunity to get ahead of the AI curve and outsmart with smart sales tactics. They sourced “plays” – practical ways to use AI tools – that helped sales workers speed up workflows, connect with customers in new ways, and close more deals. They prioritized sharing no-code and easy-to-use AI tools available online that didn’t need pre-approval from IT departments. That way, they could be implemented right away for maximum impact.

The Style

Magical is passionate and particular about its brand voice. They aim for their content to be audience-centric thought-leaders that are trustworthy and save their readers time. Their brand falls into two main archetypes: The Magician and the Outlaw. They liken their voice to a combination of April Ludgate from Parks and Rec and Peter Gibbons from Officespace. Throughout the e-book, I injected their brand voice boldly to match the style guide they provided.

The tight timeline

The turnaround for this project was quick so we got right to work. Here’s the timeline:

  • Met with the editor for discovery call April 18th.
  • I received the brief on May 1st.
  • I completed the first draft by May 22nd.
  • The editor provided feedback and edits on May 26th.
  • I returned the final draft on May 31st.

The goal was an 8,500-word e-book – complete with quotes, graphics suggestions, screenshots, research, and brand voice. We communicated via Email, Notion, and Google Docs. The timeline was followed to a T, and they were able to get it out to their designers to release it by July 2023.

The Goal:

The Playbook works to benefit Magical’s marketing on multiple levels:

  • Data: The Playbook is behind an email sign-up gate on Magical’s website. That way, they can grow their email list and gather more info about who’s downloading it.
  • SEO: The playbook was repurposed into a blog to leverage for backlinks and keywords.
  • Reach: Interviewing influencers to get “plays” and quotes got the Playbook many shares from those influencers on their social media channels.
  • New Users: By including their own tool in the e-book along with practical ways to implement it, Magical won new users.

While those were the main goals of this e-book project, I can see two more ways the e-book could benefit Magical and be used to make even more of a splash:

  • Repurpose: Magical could easily use the Playbook to create many blog posts, social media content (Youtube & TikTok how-tos especially), and email marketing content (I could see many newsletters, an onboarding series, or an email course from this).
  • Thought Leadership: The combination of brand voice, new ideas, and timing positions the Playbook to showcase Magical as a thought leader – one of their content team’s goals. It would be cool to see someone from Magical hop on some podcasts and other collaborations to share the Playbook from different angles too.

The Deliverable

The final product turned out to be a fun, sportsy e-book! You can see some screenshots of the final product below or read the whole thing on their website.
