We all know blogging is great for SEO. It builds long-term traffic, positions you as an expert, and helps you rank for more keywords.

But let’s be honest – creating at least two blog posts a month isn’t always realistic. Especially for small business owners or solo freelancers juggling everything else.

The good news? There are plenty of other ways to improve your SEO (and AEO/GEO) without cranking out blog posts nonstop.

These six unconventional SEO strategies are perfect for your own business – or for clients who can't commit to a full content schedule. I use them in my own business and for my done-for-you digital marketing clients.

Let’s dive in 👇

1️⃣ Get a Guest Spot on a Podcast

This is one of the fastest, most authority-boosting ways to earn backlinks and reach new audiences.

But here’s the trick: only pitch podcasts that include shownotes on their website. If they don’t, you’re missing out on a valuable SEO backlink opportunity.

2️⃣ Use UGC as Blog Content

Don’t have time to write full blogs? No problem – let your audience help.

If your small business or client has happy users or raving fans, turn their feedback into content. Here’s how:

  • Create a standard form with questions about their experience
  • Turn the responses into blog posts
  • Optimize each one for a relevant keyword

This is gold for SEO because it:

  • Adds fresh content to your site
  • Covers different search intents and keywords
  • Doubles as social proof

⚡️ Here’s how my client Six Moon Designs does it. They add these blog posts to their newsletters and social media posts, too.

3️⃣ Create Lead Magnets & Evergreen SEO Pages

Long-form content that’s actionable, valuable, and evergreen? That’s an SEO and email list-building win.

Try this:

  • Create a ~3,000-word, multi-part guide
  • Publish it as both a downloadable PDF, Notion Site, or Google Doc and as a landing page
  • Optimize the landing page for a high-intent keyword

You’ll get ongoing organic traffic and build your email list – without writing a blog every two weeks.

⚡️ My Get Clients Guidebook is a good example! Or check out my client, Magical’s AI for Sales Playbook.

4️⃣ Get Featured as an Expert

Being quoted in articles or featured in industry roundups not only boosts your authority – it earns you strong backlinks. You can also try getting guest speaking gigs at conferences (virtual or in-person).

Tools like:

…are goldmines for this. You can even have your clients sign up and pitch themselves too!

⚡️ I mention these to my site on a “press” page and always encourage my clients to as well.

5️⃣ Publish Infographics

Infographics are:

  • Highly shareable
  • Pinterest-friendly (hello, image SEO!)
  • Prime backlink bait

Pair each infographic with a detailed post on your blog, optimize the file name and alt text, and offer an embed code to make it easy for others to share.

Double win: you’re optimizing for Google and Pinterest.

6️⃣ Add Interactive Content

Quizzes, calculators, surveys – anything interactive encourages:

  • Longer session times (a good SEO signal)
  • More shares and backlinks
  • More email opt-ins

And you don’t need fancy tools – many quiz builders and survey platforms are free. Even better? These assets can live on your site for years with just light updates.

⚡️ I use Involve.me to create free quizzes. I pop them into my workbooks and even some of my blog posts!

🧠 FAQ: Non-Blog SEO Strategies

Do these tactics replace blogging?

Not entirely. Blogging still has its place, but these tactics can supplement your strategy – or serve as a stand-in if you’re short on time or resources.

Which low-life SEO strategy should I try first?

Start with the one that’s easiest to implement. For many freelancers, that’s pitching podcast guest spots or using UGC to create a few quick posts.

Can I use these for my clients too?

Yes! These are great services to offer if your clients want to improve SEO but can’t keep up with regular content production.

How do I track if these are working?

Use tools like Google Search Console and Ahrefs to monitor backlinks, search traffic, and keyword rankings over time.
