I spent nearly $8,000 on my old website over 8+ years – between platform fees, redesigns, and countless tweaks. But when Squarespace rolled out its liquid engine editor in mid-2023, things started to break. And they stayed broken.

No matter how many times I fixed them, they’d break! And the platform kept adding more and more complicated design tools while rearranging the ones they already offered.

So I finally said: enough.

I rebuilt my entire site using Notion and Super in 2024. It’s clean, functional, easy to update, and affordable. In this post, I’ll walk you through why I made the switch and how you can build your own Notion + Super site – even if you're not a web designer.

Why I Left Squarespace

I started my site on Squarespace in 2017. I even had it professionally redesigned in 2022. But since 2023, it hadn’t looked right or worked properly. Between the outdated layouts and bloated backend, I felt overwhelmed, frustrated, and drained by how expensive it was to keep patching together fixes.

So I made a simple decision: I wanted a website that would look good, function well, and be easy to update – without needing custom code on every page or a designer on call.

How I Rebuilt It With Notion + Super

Here’s the exact process I followed:

1️⃣ Plan Before You Build

Before I opened Notion or Super, I did some important prep work:

  • 🗺️ Mapped out my site using the Mega Footer template block from the Super Builder. This helped me visualize and organize every page.
  • 📝 Used my own Perfect Sales Page Template & Workshop to structure the website copy and make sure it was conversion-friendly.
  • 🖼️ Created 4 Canva projects in proper image dimensions. I used fun branded graphics to elevate my visuals – this is key since Notion sites aren’t design-heavy.
  • 🌟 If you don’t already have branding (logo, colors, font), get that nailed down first. I had mine done professionally.

2️⃣ Create Your Website Structure, Copy, & Images in Notion

I started building all of the content directly in Notion – each page of my website was a Notion page and a subpage of my homepage.

Then, I “published” each one and turned off the “Duplicate as Template” option.

3️⃣ Pop it into Super and Customize the Design

Once you’ve got your site built in Notion, it’s time to add it to Super and customize it. You can adjust:

  • the fonts
  • color palette
  • whether you see the Notion headers on each page
  • use CSS to adjust things like the nav bar (I use an image to make mine cuter and you can snag that code in my upcoming course)
  • change the URLs of each page if you want
  • update your SEO settings
  • add a favicon
  • create a nav bar

Pro Tip: Use Templates

  • 🧱 You can use the Super Builder templates for components. It’s a duplicatable Notion page with common website sections (like testimonials, CTAs, image blocks, hero banners) you can copy into your own Notion site.
  • 📋 Use my full-page website templates if you’d rather build your site fast with complete pages and copy prompts right away.

🚨 Important: All website pages must be subpages of your homepage for Super to properly structure your site navigation.

🧠 FAQ: Building a Website With Notion and Super

Do I need to know code to use Notion + Super?

Not at all. If you can use Notion, you can build a site using Super. It’s designed for non-techy creators and freelancers. There are options to use CSS but it’s super easy with the code snippets available from my course or around the internet. You can also ask ChatGPT to help you with this stuff.

What’s the benefit of Notion + Super over Squarespace, Wix, or WordPress?

It’s way easier to manage and way more affordable. You don’t have to worry about plugin conflicts, page speed issues, or design issues. Plus, it’s flexible and integrates well with your Notion workflow if you already use Notion.

Can I build a portfolio or sales page this way?

Yes! You can snag my 1-page portfolio website template here. You can also create services pages, a blog, a shop and more. I show you how to do all of this inside my course with templates, too.

How much does it cost?

Super starts at $12/month. Notion has a free tier, and Canva is free or $13/month for Pro. It’s a fraction of what I was paying for Squarespace + design support.

What if I want custom branding?

Use Canva to create branded headers, image blocks, and CTAs. You can also customize the colors, fonts, navigation bar, background images of callouts, and much more throughout the site using Super.
